Happy Christmas 2010 (I bet your turkey is not as big as this one)

Well, we're nearly there. Presents are wrapped if not actually delivered.
Cards ARE in the post. Near crisis this morning when the lovely staff in the Tullibody postoffice admitted that they had run out of 2nd class stamps. RUN OUT?
No stamp deliveries for 3 weeks.

Did I want to buy first class? I would only buy a first class stamp if it had a reduced price sticker on it.
Extra pressure as they said Stirling had also run out of stamps.

I did not buckle.
I stood firm.
I drove to Perth.

So: compliments of the season to you all.
Put your feet up and enjoy yourself.
Merry Christmas from all of us!

Cassandra: - oblique Dr Who reference

You won't forget the end of 2010 in our house. The first real snow OF MY LIFE (as far as I remember) as I wasn't around in the humongous winter of 1963. Snow clearing is compulsory, to try to keep the drive clear, and the snow pile growing. Shona made Cassandra here one afternoon. Not quite "Frosty" with 2 eyes made out of coal and a corncob pipe, and all carrots are reserved for Rudolph, so stones and a banana had to do.

Lemon and lime chicken.

Just a short thank you to the 2 fat bikers cookery programme.

Shona rustled up this lemon and lime chicken with egg-fried rice recipe after diligently researching everything the hairy bikers have ever made.

Serves equally well with noodles seven days later, and the chances are, if you visit in 2011 you might be served a variation of this meal!

A table!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (french - if you didn't know: blogging in 2 languages now!)

Time for reflection

I didn't take this photograph. But I did park the car, and let Mrs C out!

We were in Cellardyke, near Crail, one summer's evening.
Remember that you can click on the picture to see it enlarged.

Something's lurking in the bins

I am no chef.
But I like to help in my own way in the kitchen.
I am a trained KP (Kitchen Porter) having earned my stripes in The Scores Hotel and The Old Course Hotel.

So while visiting my mate Andrew's house and waiting for my tea, I offerred to nip out to the compost bin with the peelings.

Imagine my surprise when I opened the lid to find a family of these e-n-o-r-m-o-u-s slugs living in the bin.
It made me so sick I had to take a photo!

Just a perfect evening

Picture the scene:

Last full day of the summer holiday,
beautiful sunny evening,
campsite hosting a free concert by a 3 piece band who only know good songs from my youth,
caterer on site making "Tarte Flambee" and Pizza to order for a reasonable price,
Dutch kids playing quietly for a change,
Car packed for drive to Brugge the next day.

And finally,

Re-united with my mobile charger which had been missing for a week!

Name your peugeot

We nipped in to the Peugeot museum in the summer. They have hidden it in a small town at the "crossroads of Europe" but they are currently digging up these crossroads, so we did a few miles in the cones (with the caravan) You might expect that Peugeot's own sat nav would have Peugeot's own museum in it.

And it did!

But these roads were closed!

Anyway, they sell models of every known peugeot (except ours!) in the shop, and 50% of the shop staff are very nice.
Children get a free poster.

Sorry the posting is so late.

Baby it's cold outside....

In case anyone hasn't noticed, here in Scotland it has been a little cold for the past 2 weeks.
Ever since the snow started in November, it has been a bit weird!

So I didn't get stuck, but did notice it got a bit parky.....

Now if you are Canadian or from another northern place, please accept my apology for pointing out the -16 degrees, but trust me, this is colder than last January (See earlier postings)

Rews Rium?

Where in the world is wee Shona today? Answers on a postcard. It's easy filling the time while the brass band are whiling away the afternoon. Cymbals ready?

How to spend a grand without noticing...

Well, maybe not a grand. But it must be close. 7 years at about £130 plus a wee half at the end.

A Guy goes to the doctor with hearing problems.
"Can you describe the symptoms to me?" asked the doctor.
"Yes. Homer is a fat yellow lazy bloke and Marge is a skinny bird with big blue hair."

The ferry from last July

This is not a current picture, but one of a range of "Ferries that we love" photos which Mrs C has captured over the years. This is the SMS Rusty sailing back from Arran into the harbour. Thanks for the nice council carpark people who let us park near the exit. PHoto from the archives of July 2009.

Stena Slow on the high seas

On the way to Belfast, we veered to starboard, to miss the "Stena Slow Ferry" which was heading to Stranraer. Why would you want to go to Stranraer?
